What is a Guardian?
This is a great opportunity for a person or family to enjoy a “pick of the litter” puppy/dog that is considered for expanding our program lines. These dogs are usually the best of the best. We check each dog’s temperament, trainability, health, physical attributes, and littermate trends. Only then are the “best of the best” chosen as qualified for our Guardian program
It does take a commitment and the willingness to be flexible for the needs of the breeder during breeding times. However, we believe it is well worth it to receive what is typically the best puppy in a litter. Of course, there are requirements set forth in a contract that must be followed for the safety and well-being of the dog.
Guardians are responsible for the all general routine veterinary care and wellness of the puppy/dog placed with them. This means paying for normal fees related to owning a dog including annual exams, vaccines, feeding the recommended dog food, grooming, monthly heart worm prevention, flea/tick prevention, training, regular exercise and socialization, and most importantly love. We do ask that all our dogs pass the Canine Good Citizen test and encourage you to title them in other canine activities.
Westwing Retrievers pays for all medical screenings and costs related to breeding and raising of the litter. We require all females to whelp and raise their puppies at one of our Westwing locations. This means she will stay with us for at least 8-9 weeks during this time. We know how hard this is and encourage you to visit once the puppies are born.
Guardians must live in the Phoenix metro area throughout the duration of the contract. Upon retirement, the dog is spayed or neutered and stays with the breeder caretaker as a loving pet.
The health and well-being of our breeding dogs is a priority to us. We take every precaution to ensure the safety of each breeder. Please submit an application for consideration, if interested in becoming a Guardian.
